The Lost City of D Las Vegas is one of the more interesting stand-alone horror films released this summer. Starring Michael Caine, Dabney Coleman, and Diahann Carroll, the film had its world premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Directed by David Fincher, the film follows a group of college students who are on a road trip in search of a town named Lost City of Dixie. When they get lost in the desert, they begin to encounter a series of dead bodies and strange lights.
The film takes place in nineteen sixty-one during the Dust Bowl era of the late nineteen hundreds. Although it was not really conceived as a horror film, Lost City of D Las Vegas nevertheless has its fair share of thrills and chills. Despite its title, the film isn’t all about death and graveyard; instead, it chronicles the many ups and downs experienced by a group of college students during their traveling escapades. It is their quest to find “The Lost City of Dixie” that makes the film a success.
The most memorable scene belongs to the car chase scene, which occurs around midway through the movie. A local merchant (John Turturro) is being pursued by a band of motorcycle riders who have formed out of an old truckstop. The chase occurs on an old mining road in the area. The trucks are painted white but on this stretch of road there is no light so it is difficult to see the characters on foot. The chase scene drags on for some time but finally a massive billboard (which looks like an oil slick) is pelted with stones by one of the motorcycle riders.
The truck driver tries to avoid a crash by driving the van into a nearby river. The van eventually crashes into a tree and they escape. At the gas station the truck driver gets out of the van and walks up to the counter. He then notices a sign advertising a “CITY STREET”, and believes it is a sign of a “Daughter”. The woman (Emma Stone) standing in front of the sign has been waiting for her father (Philip Seymour Hoffman) all morning and she smiles when he enters the store.
The Next Van Smeel Results
The two next to the van are identified asphyxiated and taken away to the morgue where a foul smell results in one of them waking up and passing out. The driver of the van has been shot and is pronounced dead upon arrival. The other in his party, a city cop, is badly injured but can still fight against the criminals. An ambulance leaves with one of the suspects in custody.
An ambulance driver stops at the scene and the passengers all exit the van one after another. One of them sees something glittering on the floor and he looks down to discover a body laying there in a pool of blood. The name of the body isiarxes, the Greek word for scales.
D Las Vegas
The Lost City of D Las Vegas is a very entertaining and exciting movie. It has many entertaining elements, but it is also filled with intense and thrilling action. Philip Seymour Hoffman does a great job of playing the role of John D’Amato, a Las Vegas detective who is on the verge of retirement. The late director George Lucas also does an excellent job of creating a world that is as fascinating to the detective as the town of Las Vegas itself.
The film has received a lot of attention from film fans and critics. One of its most memorable scenes is the one in which Hoffman’s character inspects a bullet found at the crime scene. Many film lovers have said that the film is one of their favorites of all time. It is a definite must-see film for those who love thrillers and horror films.
